Our 325-bed medical center, located in Saida, Lebanon, offers sophisticated diagnostic and therapeutic care in virtually every specialty of medicine and surgery.
In 1966, Dr. Ghassan Hammoud a German trained Surgeon, Obstetrician & Gynecologist; established Hammoud Hospital in his native city of Saida, the third largest city in Lebanon located 40 km (29 miles) south of the capital Beirut. The hospital began as a 20-bed maternity facility. During the 1970s, the Hospital grew to a 100 patient bed multidisciplinary hospital, with more operating theaters as well as Laboratory Medicine and Radiology departments.
The hospital continued to provide high quality medical care throughout the 1980s during the Lebanese Civil War. During the late 1990s, the hospital acquired more advanced medical technologies, expanded and diversified its medical departments to include a Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgery Department. The hospital is extremely proud to have performed the first cardiac transplant operation in the Arab Middle East in 1999.
The hospital is currently a 325-bed facility that treats more than 24,000 patients/year and performs more than 10,000 surgeries/year. The hospital has one of the biggest Nephrology and Dialysis departments and performs the highest numbers of renal transplants in the country. HHUMC also has one of the largest Intensive Care Units in Lebanon.
In 2015, Diana Hammoud was appointed by the board, CEO of Hammoud Hospital.
Guided by the needs of our patients and their families, we aim to deliver the very best health care in a safe, compassionate environment; to advance that care through innovative research and education; and to improve the health and well-being of the diverse communities we serve.
The hospital actively participates in clinical trials and medical conferences around the world. Our research goal is to participate in clinical therapeutic research, which translates into new and better treatments that transform medical practice and patient care. We also aim to educate our staff and doctors-in-training on properly conducting and analyzing clinical research.
An Emphasis on Teaching
HHUMC is one of the largest teaching hospitals in Lebanon. Since the hospital’s founding, HHUMC has been committed to training and mentoring the next generation of physicians, nurses and pharmacists. These talented men and women, in turn, lend fresh and innovative perspective on how to treat and care for patients. The hospital has clinical affiliations with the LAU School of Nursing, Beirut Arab University (BAU), the Lebanese University (LU) and other university health programs in medicine, nursing, midwifery, pharmacy, and medical technology.
Setting the Bar for Quality & Safety
Safety, effectiveness, patient centeredness, timeliness, efficiency and equity – these six principles are the foundation of our approach to quality and safety. We measure our performance, set high goals and track our progress toward those goals. We compare ourselves against local and national benchmarks in key quality and safety areas to ensure we deliver the highest quality and safest care possible. Hammoud Hospital is now working towards receiving the highly prestigious JCI accreditation and its gold seal of approval
