“Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Mission II”

Thursday, May 2, 2019

The Pediatric Cardiac Team of the Riley Hospital for Children in Indiana, USA headed by Dr. Mark Turrentine collaborated with the Pediatric Cardiac Team of Hammoud Hospital UMC headed by Dr. Issam Al Rassi for the second consecutive year to perform 11 pediatric cardiac surgeries at HHUMC during the week of April 29th.

These operations require skilled surgical techniques, proper Hospital set-up and hence require a high financial budget. The financial burden on the families is alleviated through the UNHCR which covers 75% of the cost of surgery and the rest is covered by Gift of life Lebanon or other organizations.

Hammoud Hospital UMC has a partnership agreement with Gift of Life Lebanon since 2017 to help children suffering from Congenital Heart Disease to undergo their needed pediatric cardiac surgery.  Since then we helped together around 100 children.

The “Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Mission II” was sponsored by Gift of Life Lebanon, Gift of Life International, Chain of Hope, Gift of Life Indiana and The Josh Blimdbloom Foundation.

Mr. Mohammad Al Saoudi, Mayor of Saida visited the pediatric cardiac patients at the hospital and met also Dr. Ghassan Hammoud, founder of HHUMC.

At the end of the “Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Mission II”, Mrs. Diana Hammoud, CEO of HHUMC hosted a sunset dinner for the teams in the presence of Mr. Matthew Cook, CEO, Dr. Elaine Cox, CMO of Riley Hospital for Children, Dr. Zeina Nabhan, Associate Director of Pediatric Residency at Indiana University School of Medicine and Mrs. Lina Shehayeb, CEO of Gift of Life Lebanon.
